This is like a LIVE in the studio recording and this flavour makes this an unforgettable musical experience. Sensational vocals, great tunes and some amazing guitar playing make this a MUST HAVE. Living in OZZ, killing would most probably not be enough. ELECTRIC BLUES does not come any better than this. The energy is electric. I'd kill to see this man LIVE.
Ever. My picks are Empty Promises, Salty Tears and Icepick Through My Heart. All beautiful songs, and Burks sings them very emotionally. After SRV and Joe Bonamassa, best electric blues. What a surprise this man is for me. Strong voice, but still somehow smoky. I listen to the album again and again and it seems I will never stop.
The energy from a live gig is also cauhgt in this album. I had the honour of seeing the band live in the Biscuits and Blues club in San Francisco, last September. Raw Blues, swinging and loud.
Get this CD - you won't be disappointed. I can't wait to see him again in another month or so. Now to Iron Man. His guitar playing is second to none. I know I was witnessing a blues legend (in my book, he already is one). The CD sounds very much like their show quality - excellent on every tune.
I would highly recommend this CD to anyone who appreciates fantastic guitar playing and soulful vocals. I've never heard anyone play better - his technique and tone is fabulous. His first set lasted two hours. This may be one of the best blues-rock CDs ever produced. He played a bunch of songs I had not heard yet - I was expecting most of the songs from "I Smell Smoke". I recently had the privilege to see Michael Burks in concert - it was one of the best shows I have EVER seen.
The band was very tight and all were execellent musicians. After hearing the CD, I recognize the songs from the first set of his show.
Michael Burks has recorded an album that is the essence of contemporary electric Blues. Although this is a studio album, it actually captures Mr.
Simply dynamite. Mr.
Burks's live performance spirit (I have seen him live and I know). If you are into the Blues, this CD must be part of your collection.
If you love The Blues, like I do, do yourself a favor and pick up this CD. It is raw, full of energy, and will bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye at the same time.
Burks is like Freddie, Albert, and BB King with a dash of Stevie Ray & Otis Rush rolled into one fantastic dynamo.
